PRESS RELEASE

On July 27 2013 the activists of the Southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC) resided over by M. Nfor Ngala Nfor were holding a meeting in the house of one of the members in order to prepare the 50th year of Cameroon’s Reunification. The SCNC campaigns for the country’s partition.

The divisional officer of Bui M. Théophile NZEKI ordered the police to close the meeting held in a private and arrested SCNC activist among which Nfor Ngala Nfor who intended to oppose the police action. As for today, 83 activists have been separated between several police stations and gendarmerie in Kumbo.

Every year at the coming of October 1rst marking the date of the commemoration of the reunification of the two Cameroons (Eastern and Western) the activists of the SCNC organise protests and activities in the two english speaking regions of Cameroon in order to denunce the alliance sealed in Foumban between Ahmadou Ahidjo and John Ngu Fontcha in 1961.

Of all which precedes,

The Network of Central African Human Rights Defenders (REDHAC) :

Recalls that according to Cameroonian law, meetings in private venues are protected and thus inviolable

- Recalls that members of the Southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC) regularly face threats, intimidations and arbitrary arrests;

- Notice that no definite measure have been taken by the Cameroonian Authorities to solve the problems raised by the SCNC Consequently:

The Network of Central African Human Rights Defenders (REDHAC) :

- Condemns the blattant violations of the house by the police and the arbitrary arrests and detention;

- Demand the immediate and unconditionnal release of M Nfor Ngala Nfor and other members of the SCNC;

- Call the Cameroonian Authorities to ensure the physical andpsychological protection of M. Nfor Ngala Nfor and other members of the SCNC and other polititcal activists during this electoral period.
